Appliance Doctor of PA & DE is a local, family-owned and operated appliance repair company dedicated to serving our neighbors throughout Chester and Delaware Counties in Pennsylvania and New Castle County in Delaware. Paul W. Guckin, Jr.
Founder of the “Original” Appliance Doctor
Appliance Doctor was founded in 1964 by Paul W. Guckin, Jr., who began the business as a one-man operation servicing the Northeast Philadelphia area. Working seven days a week, Paul built a strong reputation for reliable, high-quality appliance repair and exceptional customer service.
As the business grew, Paul expanded into owning and operating several reconditioned appliance stores throughout the Philadelphia region. In 1980, he met his future wife, Nancy (Ayers) Guckin, who soon took over office operations and helped ensure the business ran smoothly.
Together, Paul and Nancy worked side by side for more than 35 years, dedicating themselves fully to their customers and the business until their retirement in 2016.

Paul W. Guckin, III, the second-born son of the founder, grew up immersed in the appliance repair industry. From a young age, he accompanied his father on service calls, learning how household appliances work and how to diagnose and repair them properly.
By the time he earned his driver’s license at 16, Paul was already completing service calls on his own. After many years working as a technician alongside his father, he decided to establish his own appliance repair company. In 2001, Appliance Doctor of PA & DE was officially formed, continuing the family legacy of expert service and dependable workmanship.
Carol Ayers
Office Operations & Customer Service
Carol Ayers, Nancy’s daughter and Paul Jr.’s stepdaughter, has been part of the Appliance Doctor family business since childhood. She began answering phones and scheduling service calls at just 12 years old, following closely in her mother’s footsteps.
Today, Carol is the friendly voice behind every phone call and online inquiry. She manages all office operations and customer service, ensuring clear communication and smooth scheduling for every customer.
